The article is devoted to the linguistic identity of the inhabitants of the Russian-Belarusian border zone, who speaks such dialects, which formerly were classified as Belarusian and now are considered to be South Russian. The article contains speakers' statements on their dialect, on their neighbours’ language, on the relationship between Belarusian and the Russian languages. In addition, it touches such question as change of linguistic identity.
