In family counseling, the topic of parenting stress and parenting burnout has become one of the most actual contemporary problems. However, there are very few domestic studies devoted to this problem. This article is devoted to the study of the characteristics of parenting stress of mothers of preschool children in relation with socio-demographic characteristics. The study involved 130 women aged 20 to 45 years, raising children aged from 1 to 7 years. Methods: biographical questionnaire, Parenting Stress Index (PSI-4) by R. Abidin (full version). An analysis of the characteristics of parenting stress in mothers of children of preschool age showed that the most pronounced are the characteristics of parenting stress, such as a lowered mood of a child, depression and maternal health problems, its isolation and poor attachment to a child. The study showed that the most significant factor affecting the level of parenting stress in mothers of children of early and preschool age is the factor of the presence of a serious/chronic disease in the child, the frequency of diseases of the child is also significant. Among other socio-biographical characteristics, the positive role of professional employment and satisfaction with the financial situation is revealed. Older mothers experience a higher level of parenting stress than younger mothers. The physical and emotional state of the mother is closely related to the level of parenting stress. Among indicators of the time spent with child by the mother, father and mother’s free time, only the time with the child spent by the father is associated with the parenting stress of the mother. Marital status, mother's education, gender and age of the child, as well as the number of children in the family are not related to the level of mother’s parenting stress.
