The article is devoted to the analysis of the biography of F. Dostoevsky, written by Virgil Tanase. The biography is critical, despite the fact that the author tries to be objective, to tell about events in chronological order, to refer to quotes, memories, historical facts. Obviously, the biographer wants to show Dostoyevsky as a sick and deeply hysterical man who wrote for the sake of self-assertion and money. Tanase details the personal life of the writer, not actually affecting business contacts, the period of military service, hard labour and literary creativity itself. The biography is written in a rather dismissive manner and aims to cause the reader to feel antipathy to the Russian big writer.
