The text reflected the discussion that took place on January 29, 2019 at the Institute of philosophy of RAS. The main question of discussion was what was Philosophy and how it was possible to philosophize in the modern world. Yu.M. Reznik on the base of fundamental ontology of M. Heidegger insisted on the implementation of the project of ecological philosophy and the need to answer the ultimate (limit) questions of human existence. And he considered the limits as those restrictions that did not allow a violation of the ecological balance and were associated with the category of permissible. B.V. Markov believed that our everyday life world no longer fitted into the universal projects of classical rationality but involved the connection of various techniques and practices of philosophizing. As a result of the discussion, the participants came to the conclusion that postmodernism hastily announced the «death of philosophy». Fundamental problems are «eternal», they tend to return because they are rooted in the very essence of humanity and its inextricable connection with nature. At the same time in each era they are put and solved in a novel way. Many phenomena of modernity no longer fall into the system of categories of classical philosophy. In particular, new media technologies challenge the old methods of reflection, critique of ideology, hermeneutics, dialectics and suggest the development of techniques of philosophizing suitable for the analysis of audiovisual mediums of communication.
