The dissolution rate dynamics of carbonate ameliorants in acidic soddy-podzolic soils has been studied in the laboratory, long-term greenhouse and field experiments. The factors affecting this process were specified. The mechanism of interaction of ameliorants with the soil was considered. The process of dissolution of lime materials can be divided into 2 stages. In the first stage there was an intensive interaction of the carbonates with the soil and most of them dissolved. In the second phase a relatively gradual decline in the number of non-reacted carbonates in soils has been shown. It was revealed that the biggest part of limestone, dolomite powder and dolomite fractions with a size of 0.25-1.0 and 1.0-3.0 mm was decomposed over 3 years after it application, and complete dissolution was finished in the 7th year after contact with the soil. The interaction of conversion chalk with the soil acoomplished on the 3rd year after liming. The influence of root exudates of spring wheat varieties on the intensity of the decomposition process of the conversion chalk in sod-podzolic loamy soil has been studied. The investigated varieties were ranked according to their effect on the activity of the dissolution process.
