The interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) affects ground magnetic perturbations which
are analyzed to reconstruct various IMF parameters in the past. Different IMF polarities (direction of the IMF either away or toward the Sun) cause positive or negative perturbations in
the mid-latitude azimuthal geomagnetic component. We find that this effect is also present at
the Kislovodsk astronomical station which provides magnetic data for 2009–2015. In order to
adjust the method of the IMF polarity reconstruction, we use the observations (1957–2001)
from the nearby station Dusheti (Tblisi). The daily IMF polarities inferred from the Kislovodsk magnetic data are correct in 69±6% days. Regardless of the availability of the satellite IMF data, the IMF sector structure can be observed at the Kislovodsk station.
