The article represents an analysis of existing conceptions of cinematic influence on Y. K. Olesha’s novel «Envy» and additions to them. It is questioned if thematic and motive interferences between «Envy», Chaplin’s and German expressionists’ films take place on the level of poetics of the novel and if there are any similarities between principles of creating images in “Envy” and montage theories of its age.
