At the beginning of the 21st century, the problems left to the descendants of the Second World War — the burial of unburied servicemen and their identification — are still not resolved. The actions of the Ministry of Defense, due to the significant scale of work and its relatively late involvement in solving this problem, cannot therefore be brought to a logical conclusion. The decisive force is still the search teams, which discover hundreds of defenders of the Fatherland not buried in the places of former battles. Their activity created a precedent for the formation of a collective historical memory, was a component for the nation's self- identification.
