The article analyzes the information structure of the modern and classical stories on the material of the works of Chekhov and the Russian writers of the XXI century, reveals analogies and contrasts in the ways and stages of information modification and the methodological potential of the cognitive approach to the linguistic text analysis in the aspect of teaching Russian for foreigners.
