The article considers an issue of the realization of poetic motifs related to the story of Yūsuf in classic Afghan poetry by ‘Abd al-Hamid Mohmand (died. circa 1732/33). Numerous allusions and reminiscences referring to Quranic and literary narratives contribute to sophistication and complexity of Hamid's poetry. In Hamid's poetry the story of Yūsuf and Zulaikha in its various versions constitutes an inexhaustible source of poetic motifs. In his works the poet more than thirty times referred to Yūsuf, Zulaikha, Yaʿqūb, and Canaan. The research focuses in greater detail on the transformation of traditional motifs referring to the stories of Yūsuf in Hamid Mohmand's lyrics.
