The article presents the results of a pilot study. The aim is to study the behavioral strategies of mothers and children of preschool age with autism spectrum disorder (hereinafter referred to as ASD) in a situation of free play interaction. Behavioral strategies are considered as a factor in the development of dialogic interaction between mothers and children with ASD. Materials and methods. The study involved 20 mothers and 20 children with ASD and included direct observation and video recording of free play interaction between mother and child. Research methods include qualitative analysis, classification and description of successful and unsuccessful behavioral strategies of mothers. Results. The results showed that 10 out of 20 mothers simultaneously used both successful and unsuccessful behavioral strategies in the interaction. Only 6 mothers used successful strategies and 4 mothers used unsuccessful strategies. Discussion and conclusion. It is concluded that it is necessary to teach mothers successful behavioral strategies that will contribute to building a dialogical interaction between mother and child with ASD.
