The purpose of the article is to reveal the interrelationship between sports mega-events and sports diplomacy by assessing the consequences of such events on the situation in the political arena. The work examines the impact on the changes in world politics of such sports mega-events as the Olympics in Sochi, Rio de Janeiro and Pyeongchang, as well as the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
