The paper aims at examining an issue of a text and understanding its role as perceived in contemporary culture of South Korea. It is viewed in relation with the traditional perceiving of a text and a written word as an instrument of positive influence on the society, world and universe in general. With this regard, the first part of the paper presents the traditional vision of a text. The second part discusses the representations of current issues in contemporary texts. The third part explains functioning of text in everyday life and comments on texts being involved in regulating social problems. The fourth part introduces new tendency of representing reading as a short way to social success.
