The article presents the example of workbook on the practical phonetics of the Russian Language for organizing the independent work among American students studying at the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences at St. Petersburg State University. An audit experiment is described on the perception by native speakers of the text that students have read twice — before and after they have completed the phonetic course.
