Women have consistently played an important role in the movements
leading to the modernization of society in the Middle East and North Africa, they
took a major part in the events of the so-called “Arab Spring”. At the same time,
although the goals set by the protestors were mostly not achieved, these events
actualized the controversy about the status of women. In the context of studying this
issue, the States of the Persian Gulf are of particular interest, which, declaring a
common focus on modernization, preserve many elements of traditional society.
Despite the high rates of economic growth, the social sphere, one of the most
important aspects of which is gender relations, is developing much slower.
The article examines how different groups of residents of the Persian Gulf
countries assess certain aspects of a woman’s legal status ten years after the events of the
“Arab Spring”. In terms of the research, the survey on three aspects (the coordination of
actions with male relatives, employment and the process of inheritance of movable and
immovable property) of the legal status of women was held.
