This graduation work is about the dynamics of cognitive functions of elderly patients, undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting. This research is devoted to the actual in clinical psychology problem of rehabilitation of patients with chronic diseases, such as coronary heart disease (CHD or ischemic heart disease). 56 patients from Federal Almazov North-West Medical Research Centre (St. Petersburg) took part in the study of factors of cognitive status of patients with CHD after coronary bypass surgery. There are 28 elderly patients in first group and 28 middle-aged patients in second group. We used a clinical psychology interview and following psycho diagnostic methods: “Integrative anxiety test” (ITT), “Toronto alexithymic scale” (TAS); “Trail Making Test” (TMT); Subtests of “Similarities” and “The Block Design Tests” (Kohs) from the “Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale” (WAIS); “10 words”; “Remembering stories”; “Simple analogies”; “Test of visual retention” A. Benton; “Interference Stroop Task”. Moreover, structured interview was used to collect and study information about patient's socio-demographic and psychosocial characteristics. For the data processing we used statistical methods: Pearson's χ2-test, Mann-Whithey U-test, Independent Samples T-test and T-Wilcoxon. Analysis of the dynamics of cognitive functions of patients showed a positive dynamics in elderly patients in terms of logical memory and a decrease in indicators of verbal-logical thinking. Also, analysis of the dynamics of cognitive functions showed a positive dynamics in middle-aged patients in terms of spatial-constructive thinking. It was also found that the rates of mental activity, the switch ability of active attention, the selectivity of attention of patients in both the elderly and middle age at each stage of the study are significantly lower than in the normative sample. Furthermore, there are significant differences in clinical and psychosocial characteristics among groups.
