In this article we consider the possibility of analyzing the current digital revolution from the point of view of historical epistemology. The problems associated with the absence of a historical perspective during the possible research are demonstrated. We signify epistemologist events and processes that determined the advent of the computers age. On the example of turning to the history of computer science from the late 40s to the beginning of the 60s of the 20th century, the need for inclusion in the epistemological study of social and political contexts, which significantly affect exploratory and educational practices in the field of information technology, is demonstrated.
