Using data from the Comtrade, Trade Map and the UNCTAD-Eora Global Value Chain Database for the period 2001–2017, the paper assesses Russia's participation in global value chains (GVCs) and intraindustry trade. Particular attention is paid to the development of bilateral trade between Russia, China and Belarus. The results confirm different trade pattern between Russia and these countries. Recent years has seen the growth of intra-industry trade between the countries in such new industries as agricultural products, food, transport vehicles, as well as an increase in Russia's participation in the GVCs.
