Using Phytoindication Methods. The article presents the results of environmental monitoring of Vasileostrovsky district of St. Petersburg using the bark of poplar Populus balsamifera Bieb. Content of sulphates, heavy metals (Cd, Co, Cu, Zn, Mn, Fe, Pb, Ni, Cr) and pH in poplar bark were analysed. Comparison ofthe chemical composition of poplar bark with indicators in 1998 and 2009 carried out. Pollution reduction by Pb, Zn, Cd and Cu in the past 20 years were determined.
