The article is dedicated to the wordplay phenomena as a way to express Spaniard’s negative evaluating attitude to the economic crisis. Two types of wordplay are being described: 1. Proper
name in puns; 2. Precedent text transformation. Transformation of proverbs includes comic situations with various wordplay objects involved into the “economic crisis” concept. Lexical replacements and word additions are the most common methods of proverb transformation in the examined material.
