N2 - The influence of the multiple Coulomb scattering of particles of a relativistic electron beam (REB) in the background gas-plasma medium on the development of the REB resistive hose instability (RHI) is investigated within the framework of the hard beam model taking into account the effect of phase mixing. It is shown that the scattering process is an essential stabilizing factor.
