This research paper discusses the political phenomenon of Donald trump. The article presents a qualitative analysis of the trend of the election campaign in the us Congress, a critical analysis of the results of the midterm elections to the US Congress and their impact on the political system in the country. Trump's chances of becoming a presidential candidate in the upcoming presidential elections in 2020 are evaluated. When writing a research work, special literature was studied, including scientific articles analyzing the actions of the President-elect both in the foreign policy arena and within the country; manuals of well-known political scientists, experts and analysts determining the political phenomenon of Donald trump in populism and his chances of re-election to the presidency in 2020; statistical materials, electronic sources studying the trends of the election campaign in the us Congress; official statements of political leaders on the impact of the midterm elections to the us Congress on the stab
