The paper describes the functional and semantic features of
discursive words mda and nda with vowel extension, actively
functioning in everyday Russian speech and its imitations in fiction
texts or mass media texts. The current study applies multi-component
contextual and discursive types of analysis to determine the
quantitative characteristics and functions of the units under study
(reflection, condemnation / disapproval / discontent, communication
support, etc.). The paper presents different graphical variants of stretching (mdaa* with vowel repetition and mda-a* with
hyphenation) and reveals their frequency and the dependence of the
word spelling on the duration of the vowel. The material for the
present study is based on four resources: the main, spoken, newspaper
and multimodal sub-corps of the National Corpus of the Russian
Language. A user sub-corpus was compiled for the work, for which 69
contexts with mda* and 40 contexts with nda* were selected by
continuous sampling.
