The article examines the creativity by the Flemish artist and engraver of the XVII century Adam Frans van der Meulen, who was in the court service of king Louis XIV of France. The author explores historical and battle scenes that Meulen created for the French aristocracy. Many of the artist's paintings at present decorate the state halls of Versailles and other palaces-museums in France. Analyzing Meulen's works in detail, the author concludes that they serve as an important source for studying the political and military history of France in the XVII century.
