On May 8, 1945, the Act on the Unconditional Surrender of Germany was signed in the Karlshorst suburb of Berlin. The signatures of the representatives of the parties under this document were put at 22 hours 43 minutes local time. Moscow time was May 9: 0 hours 43 minutes. For this reason, throughout the entire USSR, including in Latvia and Estonia, Victory Day was celebrated annually on May 9. The modern Baltic states strive in everything to abandon their Soviet past and absorb the ideological assessments of the past war of Western European countries, including adopting the tradition of celebrating the end of the Second World War, and not the Great Patriotic War, and not on May 9, but on May 8.
