This article based on archival documents shows the place of violence in the political practice and ideology of the Communist Party of Uruguay. It is shown how the party perceived the ideas of the Comintern on the use of violence to solve political problems, how Party formed its program of application of violence in comparison with the practice of the Socialist Party and anarchist groups. Article considers the evolution of the party's ideas about the role of violence in political activities during the formation of the Broad Front and the fight against dictatorship.
