Article is devoted to the 80th anniversary of birth of professor G. V. Sukhodolsky (1934-2008). He was an outstanding member of the Leningrad psychological school. The main stages of his scientific and pedagogical activity are described in this article. Also the evolution of the scientist's views is traced: they evolved from scientific and applied research in the engineering psychology field to the issues of philosophy of science and methodology of the activity approach. His contribution to creation of the psychological theory of activity and introduction of mathematical concepts and methods in psychology is noted. Logical and mathematical methods created by G. V. Sukhodolsky are described. Application strategies of his works for solution of practical and theoretical psychology problems are considered.
