The article shows the necessity of teaching Chinese students to apply strategies for mastering business discourse which contributes to the development of their English communication competence. The article describes three types of strategies (cognitive, metacognitive and rhetorical) and provides examples of their use in English-language business discourse as part of the Business English academic course.
