In the current article, the author analyzes the problem of national identity formation in the context of its influence on the foreign policy decisions making by state leaders. The author proposes the analysis of stages of national identity formation of three leading countries of the contemporary post-bipolar world: the Great Britain, the Federal Republic of Germany and the Russian Federation. The ideas of Max Weber in the sphere of national identity formation and state government are used in this work. The actual problems of the modernity as Crimea accession, Brexit and Angela Merkel ’s migration policy are considered in this article in the context of the influence of the cohesive nation on the fatal of the politic leaders and their decisions implementation.
