Thanks to Joseph Nye who coined the term soft power in the late 1980s the concept itself became part and parcel of both theory and practice of modern diplomacy throughout 79 the world, and Russia is no exception. As the Pushkin Institute is the lead voice of Russia’s soft power to date, the substantive purpose of the Institute is the promotion of Russian language and education in Russian abroad. The author examines some of the most promising projects launched by the Pushkin Institute and relative to the enhancing Russia's soft power, such as «Pushkin Online» and «Russian Language Ambassadors in the World».
