In the article, a graduate of the first set of the Dutch department of LSU (years of study 1972–1977) tells about the history of its foundation, about the first teachers, about the teaching methods of one of them – S.G. Khalipov, a well-known polyglot who knew about 40 languages. Thanks to the high linguistic skills and the enthusiasm of the teachers, who learned this new language, in fact, together with the students, the training was very successful, despite the acute shortage of educational materials.
