Rapakivi granites are a widely used in architectural ensembles of St. Petersburg. The history and examples of their application from 1760s are here reviewed. The geological map of the Vyborg massif is given made on the basis of materials from Finnish and Russian geologists. Places of mining granites which have been used in St. Petersburg are shown on the map (Vyborgit, Piterlit, Baltic Brown, Eagle Red, Karelia/Karmen Red, Vozrogdenie-8, Ala-Noskua). New mineralogical and petrographic examinations of granites structure are provided. The article is intended for geologists, architects, builders and restorers.
