The article surveys syntactic means used in the language of mass communication for the purpose to influence the conscience of the reader to achieve ideological objectives. Under review are the texts of the Portuguese press with the examples of the language demagogy used with the aim of impact on the readers, trying to impose a certain point of view, such as pleonasm, rhetorical figures, parallel constructions, forms of Subjunctive Mood etc.
