The matter of the article is to prove two main points: 1. Essence of Aristophanes’ comic dialectics is contrary to the sophistic dialectics. It is sticomitia that becomes the main technique of comic dialectics. The second reply in the comic dispute is not the negation of the frst reply. Its sense is the comic emphatic strength; 2. Socrates is an example of a sophist that is taken in a general way. The refutation of sophistic dialectics in The Clouds and other comedies is studied here. Comic dialectics is studied by the analysis of the disputes of Dicaeopolis and Lamachus ( The Achanians ) and Strepsiades and Socrates ( The Clouds ). From the formal point of view, the main hero answers the replies of his opponent in the manner of hyperbolic disagreeing. The example is: “Lamachus: Carry me to the doctor / Dicaeopolis: Carry me to the feast chiefs”. So the comic “negation” means making the frst proposition not contrary in its sense to the frst but a “more emphatic” one. Comic contradiction is not putting “yes” instead of “no”. It is a method of satire and ridiculing. Aristophanes’ Socrates is not a real man but a literary hero. The author thinks that it is impossible to extrapolate the Socrates in The Clouds outside the context of the comedy. Socrates is the general manifestation of the sophist. Socrates’ dialectics transforms into the comic dialectics in The Clouds. It is the great methodological discrepancy between sophistic dialectics and comic dialectics. It is hardly possible for Aristophanes’ hero to communicate with a sophist.
