The current article analyzes the relationship between individual psychological characteristics and coping behavior in the elderly as well as identifies positive correlations of emotionally-oriented coping and demonstrativeness, suspicion, impulsivity, anxiety, tension, and depression. The study describes that problem-oriented coping is typical for extroverts, sociable and trusting people who are prone to self-control, perseverance and responsibility, while avoidance-oriented coping is characteristic of people who are expressive, inquisitive, and flexible in their behavior in relation to external circumstances. The data obtained can be taken into account in the development of educational and methodological programs in social psychology, developmental psychology, gerontopsychology, crisis psychology, psychological counseling, personality psychology, stress psychology, etc.
