An article about the Soviet children's writer Elena Nikolaevna Vereiskaya (ur. Kareeva) (1886-1966) is intended to name the main milestones of her life and work, but mainly the military period of the hero’s biography is revealed in it. Member of the Union of Soviet Writers E.N. Vereyskaya at the time of the beginning of World War II (1941-1945) was an employee of the children's magazine Chizh. During the war period, she worked in hospitals in Leningrad until she received a serious hand injury, but even after that, Elena Nikolaevna left the hospital activity, she read her works to wounded soldiers. The period from February 1942 to November 1944 E.N. Vereiskaya spent in Kazan, where she continued active lecture work; she performed in schools and hospitals, pioneer camps and cinemas, in factories and playgrounds. Children's writer contributed to the cause of the Great Victory over the enemy. She often received letters of thanks from schoolchildren and fighters. Returning to Leningrad after lifting the blockade of the city, E.N. Vereyskaya continued her writing and created some of her best works, in which the theme of people's life during the war occupied a central place.
