The aim of the research is to characterize the artistic image of Chukotka in S. Zabarova's novel "Vatyrkan" at the level of text composition, principles of plot development, and poetic expression. The author of the article shows that the details of the Chukchi landscape, the description of traditions, flora and fauna of this region, the personification of natural objects, and the use of the "concomitant mood feature" technique in the novel recreate the national flavor, demonstrate the influence of natural phenomena on the character and fate of man, change the lines of the plot narrative, and highlight the specifics of the psychology of the characters. The novel "Vatyrkan" by modern Russian writer Svetlana Zabarova, in a special way and with the author's poetics, paints a picture of Chukotka for the reader that requires separate comprehension. This novel has not yet been the object of special scientific analysis: for the first time, the image of Chukotka in the novel "Vatyrkan" is characterized at the level of composition, principles of plot development, and means of verbal expressiveness, which represents the scientific originality of the research. As a result, it is proved that the image of Chukotka performs the function of the main emotional background for the development of the plot. Poetic images of nature become links that connect the whole picture of the artistic image of Chukotka into a single whole. The description of the northern nature contains the author's characterization of the landscape space of Chukotka, accurately reflecting natural realities, and the poetic style emphasizes the specifics of the local color and creates its own metaphysics of the novel and the image of Chukotka.
