The development of renewable energy sources is a modern global trend, which is due to the need to solve the problem of environmental pollution and the awareness of the climate change. A number of successful projects in this area have been implemented in the regions of the Russian Arctic. These projects proved an opportunity of using wind and solar energy in the climatic conditions of the Extreme North. Indigenous peoples of the North retain traditional natural resources management and a nomadic way of life. But they are also potential consumers of renewable energy. The authors analyze some cases of activities in the field of ‘clean energy’, focusing on nomads and taking into account their mobility. The success of such projects depends on the participation of the indigenous population and their willingness to use technical innovations and to acquire new knowledge and skills.
