The article is devoted to a problem of truth of one of the crucial events ofthe XX century native history Interpretation-a storm of the Winter Palace inPetrograd in autumn 1917. The interpretation of this Great Russian Revolutionepisode is an obvious case of showing of how mythological principles are shaped.And that of history that was one of the screen culture purposes of the Soviet period.Classical films of our country's cinematography, devoting to the events of 1917 in Petrograd are analyzed. Three films, such as ‘October' by Sergei Eisenstein (1927), ‘Lenin in October' by Mikhail Romm (1937) and ‘I saw the birth of a new world' b (2 part of the dilogy ‘The Red Bells' by Sergei Bondarchuk (1982) are the focus ofattention. Analyzing their impact on the next films, devoted to the events of 1917 as well as on documentaries and TV versions of the Great Russian revolution, the author comes to the conclusion that visual canon of the interpretation formed inthe cinematography has a pronounced mythological style which differs in facts and contradicts a version shaped by the cinematography.
