The article examines the current state of the left forces in the American-Caribbean regions of the French Republic: in Guiana, Guadeloupe, and Martinique. This topic hardly been studied in the scientific literature. The study is based primarily on analysis of local political sources and media materials. The author show the specific features of the status of these overseas regions within the French state and identifies the socio-economic and political reasons contributing to the maintenance of high political and electoral potential for the left in the regions. R.V.Kostiuk comes to the conclusion that in all American-Caribbean regions there is competition between radical and moderate left-wing tendencies, and also between proponents of secession from the French Republic and advocates of autonomous status. Martinique is the most left-leaning among the American-Caribbean regions. At the same time, the author believes that at the present time even the separatist forces do not speak a unilateral and speedy break with the French Republic.
