The paper presents an analysis of the interrelationships of the reactance scale with the Big Five traits. The theory of psychological reactance is considered as a motivational state that arises in response to threats or restrictions on freedom. The theory is based on four key elements: freedoms, threats to freedoms, affective reactions (anger or aggression), and attempts to restore freedom. In the course of the work, the Merz-Hong scale (Cronbach’s α = = 0.812, standardised α = 0.818, McDonald’s ω = 0.818) was used, which was adapted to the Russian sample (N = 231, M = 32.5, SD = 13.1). The results of the study show that reactance is negatively correlated with agreeableness -0.275 (p = 0.000) and conscientiousness -0.197 (p = = 0.003) and positively associated with negative emotionality 0.321 (p = 0.000). A comparison of the personal characteristics of the groups according to the severity of reactance was performed. However, the results require further study.
