The soil microbiome was studied in eastern Antarctica on the Progress station.
The soil cover is represented by natural soils and soil-like bodies, as well as anthropogenic soil. The composition of the microbiomes of natural and anthropogenic
soils have significant differences in alpha and beta diversity. According to the obtained data, primary soils on stone pavements are highly diverse; representatives of
Proteobacteria predominate in the microbiome. In the ornithogenic soils forming in
the areas of bird nests, an average level of diversity and prevalence of Cyanobacteria in the composition was noted. In anthropogenic soils, extremely low diversity
and dominance of Bacteroidetes is noted.
