The article considers stories by Horacio Quiroga, one of the largest Uruguayan writers of the 20th century. Quiroga paid special attention in his works to the depiction of tropical nature in South America, as well as to the man's struggle against nature for existence. Objectivism in creating images of heroes, that is also expressed at the linguistic level, is an important feature of the writer's creative manner.
