Internet addiction (IA) is recognized as one of the most common forms of non-chemical addictive disorders with significant negative social, medical and economic consequences. In a situation where therapeutic approaches to IA are only being developed and there are no standards not only for pharmacological, but also for psychological and psychotherapeutic care, comprehensive multidisciplinary studies are becoming particularly relevant, the results of which are highly necessary for the prevention and early diagnosis of the disease. On the basis of world research findings analysis the article formulates a core hypothesis and the most important goals for a comprehensive interdisciplinary study in searching and validating a system of high risk markers for IA development as a clinical, biological, genetic and psychological phenomenon.
