Studies show higher levels of gender nonconforming behavior and personality traits among gay men. They also demonstrate lower levels of psychological well-being in gender nonconforming individuals. Following these findings, we conducted a study of cognitive, emotional and behavioral features of gender identity in homosexual (n=22) and heterosexual (n=22) men. Mean age was 25,6 (SD=5,7). Methods included Male Attitude Norms Inventory (Luyt R.), Psychological Well-Being Scale (Ryff C.), Leary's Interpersonal Behavior Inventory, TAS-20. The participants also completed the self-description questionnaire and the gender stereotypes questionnaire. The Mann-Whitney U-Test and the Pearson's chi-squared test were used to compare the data. Gay men had less gender stereotyped beliefs (p=0,014) as well as lower levels of toughness (p=0,029) and homophobia (p=0,007). No significant differences in gender-related traits within self-concept and levels of psychological well-being were found. The results suggest that the level of gender normativity within cognitive, emotional and behavioral aspects of gender identity is not significantly related with a sexual orientation of an individual.
