The guidebook «The British Route» was prepared by a team of authors - great experts in the history and culture of St. Petersburg N.N. Karetnikova, R.E. Pavlova and A.A. Smirnova. The co-authors have been working for many years at the St. Petersburg State University of Culture and Arts, closely cooperating with the «History of Petersburg» journal. The guide provides a detailed description of six routes related to the history of the British in St. Petersburg: «Peter and Paul Fortress - Vasilyevsky Island», «English Embankment», «Senate Square - Admiralty - Palace Square - Palace Embankment», «Millionnaya Street - Mars' Field - Summer Garden - Kutuzovskaya Embankment - Tavrichesky Palace - Smolny», «Nevsky Prospect», «Suburbs». This project was carried out with the support of UNESCO and the Administration of St. Petersburg. The guide details the contribution of the British to the development of science, art, industry, culture and business enterprise in the capital of the Russian Empire. Special attention is paid to the history of the English Club, as well as the New English Club. The guide is provided with a map and numerous illustrations, allowing the reader to get the most complete picture of the influence of British culture on the formation of the original culture of St. Petersburg.
