The article analyzes the concept of social capital, compares various approaches to examination of the phenomenon, reviews it basic components and characteristics, defines specifics of a social-psychological perspective. The role of social capital in functioning of individuals, groups and society as well as factors of its formation are discussed. Directions for future psycho-social research are outlined.
