Tiapride has a history of being used abroad, and since recently it finds application in this country. Because of its pharmacological characteristics, it occupies a special place among psychotropic medications. It belongs to antipsychotics and is a derivative of benzamide. The latter are known for variety of effects and noticeable safety. Research illustrates the potential of this medication in age-related motor unrest and agitation, also in combination with mental confusion. There is some evidence of using tiapride as an addition to regular treatment of hallucinations. Besides, there are perspectives in using this medication in anxiety disorders, old-age depression with somatoform features and also in psychopathological phenomena in alcohol addiction.
