The study seeks to identify conceptual metaphors which commonly occur in US and British reviews about postmillennial exhibitions of Soviet photographic art dating from 1917 to 1961. The metaphors capture the complex relations between the artistic content and historical context of the photographs and help to overcome the temporal, spatial and cultural divide between the Soviet photographer and the Western viewer.
