This article analyzes the changes in attitudes towards immigrants in Russia. As an empirical basis article used data from the European Social Survey from 2006 to 2014 and the World Values Survey from 1990 to 2011. Analysis of data from these surveys shows the presence of an unfavorable situation in relation to the immigrants of the indigenous population of the host regions. A significant portion of the respondents retained negative attitudes towards immigrants, differing on the nationality of the majority of Russia's population. They believe that the influx of immigrants has a negative impact on the economy, it contributes to the destruction of the country's culture and worsen the living conditions in the country. After the Soviet collapse the residents of former Soviet republics began to immigrate in Russia. They are dominated by citizens of Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan. A significant portion of immigrants is in Russia illegally. According to statistics, over the past four years the number of migrants arriving in Russia increased by 40%. According to experts, this trend will continue in the coming years. Saving negative attitudes towards immigrants in a large part of the indigenous population of the host regions may contribute to ethnic tensions and increase the likelihood of inter-ethnic conflicts.
